Edge of Heaven

The Edge of Heaven is a Turkish film directed by Fatih Akin, and it was shown at several international film festivals. After watching this film, I feel that it can be divided into three parts. At the beginning of the movie, a Turkish immigrant named Ali Aksu, who was also a retired widower, found an old prostitute to stay with him because he could not bear always being alone. However, Ali Aksu drunk so much that he had to make an emergency appointment. During that time, Ali’s son Nejat Aksu found out that Yeter was doing this job for her daughter, because she hoped that her daughter could be educated. Surprisingly, Ali thought that there was affair between Yeter and his son, and he accidentally killed Yeter. Those things happened unexpected and I believe many audiences were as shocked as I did.
The second part of the film talks about Ali’s daughter, who has joined an organization and participated in a demonstration. There was a conflict during the demonstration and she was chased by the policemen. Then she went to German and met a girl who named Lotte and wanted to protect her, but Lotte failed in the end and Nejat were put into jail.
The last part Lotte left her mother because she wanted to save Nejat. She tried to take back the gun but it was stolen by a child on her way home, and the child accidentally shot her to death.
All the things happens on the characters were unusual and unexpected. They are all fascinating no matter watch them separately or together. Some people many think that the characters change their behavior so suddenly that those stories are unrealistic, but it is true that people can change their minds in a second. What really surprised me is the ending of this movie, because it seems too harmonious. After many complicated things happened, the ending of this movie is really smooth.
